Weapons

We count on with four available weapons:

7.62 mm cannons. Two cannons to destroy up to two enemy units (air, sea o terrain units) simultanously, four in the case of wingman. This weapon has the less destructive power but practically is never ending.

Hydra rockets. Air to air or air to terrain. They are not guided rockets but a very fast weapon, with medium destructive power and large range. We count on a large amount of them. Is possible the launching in burst mode.

Hellfire missiles: Air to air or Air to terrain. They are laser guided missiles, less fast than Hydra rockets and very powerfull : a single impact is enought to destroy an amored unit. We count on with few of them so is convenient a restrictive use. Althought they are laser guided are
indicated for terraing targets because of is easy to air units to avoid them.

Stinger missiles: Air to air. They are heat guided missiles, fast and with a great destructive power: a single impact is enough to destroy a enemy helicopter or fighter plane. We have a very limited number of them.

Boring at office? Play Covert Warfare

Covert Warfare doesn’t need installation to be played. Install Covert Warfare at home or any PC, copy the complete folder ‘Cover Warfare’ in your pendrive, a CD or send youself by mail, then copy the folder in another PC to start playing, so, if you haven’t administrating privileges to install anything at you office computer that isn’t a problem to play Covert Warfare simply executing the file Covert Warfare.exe

if your boss suddenly appears backwards press three times the TAB key and then will appear the classic blue Windows screen:

blue_screen.jpg

Then, if you press ESC key the game will be finished. However, if you press SPACE then you could continue.

You also can play Covert Warfare in windowed mode. You can minimize and maximize the window whenever you want.

Submmiting levels

Sharing your levels

To share your levels submit a link to your downloable files at the category ‘Player levels links’ in our forum:

Player levels links

Register is needed.

You need a private space in internet where host your files.

To pack your level you need to compress (.zip, .rar…) the folder of your level (example: baikonur.zip). If the total size is too high you can exclude the following files:

- The ‘fragments’ folder under the ‘level_compiled’ folder of your level folder.
- If your level is compiled, all the .bmp files (enemy_troops.bmp, navigation.bmp …)

This is a sample of distribution:  baikonur-strike.rar (needs compilation)

Level creation

Compiling your level.

At this point you have created the minimum information needed to design a level.

- Name: the name of the folder under ‘player_levels’ folder
- Terrai: ground.jpg
- mini-map: map.jpg
- Apache starting position, enemy units and positions: enemy_troops.jpg

Before continue create a file named description.txt with six text lines.  Sample:

BAIKONUR STRIKE
KAZAKHSTAN
03/10/2011  00:45
MISSION CODE: KZN-34-BAI
DESTROY THE LAB
WINGMAN SUPPORT

Download here: description.txt

Run Covert Warfare. Your level appear at the left of the screen. All the levels under the ‘player_levels’ folder appear in alphabetically ordered.

compiling_1.jpg

Your new level appears in yellow colour. It indicates that needs to be compiled to be playable. Select your level with the cursor keys and press ‘C’ key.

The compiling process begins. The system shows you all the different steps followed.

compiling_2.jpg

At the end of the compiling process a message like this is showed:

level compiled.

Click your mouse and the level appears in green color now. Select windowed or full screen, the desired difficulty and click the mouse to start.

Enemy positions

In this tutorial we will learn how to position the different enemy units. We won’t learn how to move them until a further lesson. At the end of this step we will obtain a set of enemy units positioned statically in the terrain.

Open the ground.jpg file and save as new file enemy_troops.bmp. Why .bmp for this file?

The jpg file format  is appropiate to image files. This format generate files of small size. To indicate the position of the differents units we need to colour individual pixels and we need the bmp format for this purpose because the jpg format combine the colour of adjacents pixels when you save your image file to compress the image. bmp’s keeps the original colour of each pixel when you save the file beacuse is a format without compression.

Apache unit position

The first step is to specify the position of our Apache unit at the beginning of the mission. To do that draw a red square pattern  like this where you want:

Note: The faster software we now to edit bmp files es Graphics Gale Editor (link)

enemy_1.jpg
(position of Apache unit)

enemy_2.jpg
(the pattern for Apache unit)

You can start the mission anywhere across the scenary but in this tutorial we won’t create a scroll route. By default, Covert Warfare scroll the scenario during the mission from down to up, like the old 2D arcades, so put your Apache unit near the bottom of the scenario in your enemy_unit.bmp file.

Enemy positions

Now you can put the enemy units. You can create up to 89 units. Let’s start with 10 (the limit for the free trial). These are the different patterns you can use:

Transportation unit (not armed):
enemy_3.jpg

Tank
enemy_4.jpg

Cannons Turret
enemy_5.jpg

Copter
enemy_6.jpg

Facilities
enemy_7.jpg

Main facilities
enemy_8.jpg

Patterns size: All the patterns used in Covert Warfare has a size of 5 x 5 pixels

Patterns colour: Use the red colour to draw the position patterns.

Copy and paste: Draw a pattern and copy - paste it to position all the units of the same kind.

In future versions of Covert Warfare we will add more patterns and more possibilities.

The orientation:
If you don’t specify the orientation of each unit they will appear looking to the right. To indicate a orientation draw a blue square like this near of each unit pattern:

enemy_9.jpg

Main objetives:

You can specify what objetives must be destroyed to accomplish the mission. To do that draw a red 5×5 square at the right of the enemy unit pattern. We only set one main objetive (the limit of free trial)

enemy_10.jpg

Download the sample file: (3 .rar parts): enemy_troopspart01.rar ; enemy_troopspart02.rar ; enemy_troopspart03.rar

A little advice

Keep a copy of each file whenever you edit them, before you colorize a image, resize, add a enemy, a movement route…
